Students at the Woodstock campus of NBCC are being warned about whooping cough.

Students and staff received an email from the college Tuesday, May 29, advising them there has been a case of the disease on campus.

In an interview with Public Health Friday, June 1, they say there are 619 cases of whooping cough in the province.

There are 48 reported cases in Region 3, which stretches from Grand Falls to Chipman, east of Fredericton, including the Woodstock area.

Officials say most of the cases have been reported in the 10 to 14 year old age group.

They also report there have been no deaths in the province in this outbreak.

Symptoms of the disease include a persistent cough and cold-like symptoms.

If you feel you may have whooping cough, you should visit your family doctor or local hospital.
