how young is too young for social media

Right now there is a policy that states that you must be older than 13 to join Facebook. And even if you join at 13, you are SUPPOSED to have parental consent. A lot of kids already sign up without parents permission, and they don't think twice about it. Not knowing the dangers of broadcasting their entire lives on the internet for EVERYONE to see. It could very well damage the future for our kids!

Well Facebook is talking about allowing tweens to join the site (tweens are kids under 13). A company rep was saying that they already have plenty of under aged kids on their sites who are lying about their age. Some of them are doing it with their parents help!

Facebook has always had a strict under 13 policy because of legal issues in America. They actually follow the rule all over the world.  But a lot of parents are happy their kids are on the site. My question to you, is why? Why do kids under 13 need to be on Facebook? It's a scary virtual world out there and easy to get mixed up in it!

Should tweens be allowed to join Facebook?
