Who Deserves a Dozen

Here is this week's nominating letter.

I want to nominate Marissa Shaw of Somerville.  She is my daughter's 7 year old best friend and is in Grade 2 at Hartland Community School.  My daughter Emily has Cerebral Palsy, non verbal, in a wheelchair and blind.  For her to have such a close friend is great in itself, but Marissa is so much more.  She heard me talking about a special water walker, which would allow Emily to swim with her friends independantly and that we had to figure out how to purchase it for Emily as it was $800.  She went home and asked her parents if they could buy it for Emily.  Her mom Chlory said they wished they could, but maybe they could raise the money to buy it.  So with the help of her mom Chlory and one of the truck drivers, Jake from Day & Ross sold 50/50 tickets and got some donations.  She also wanted to take money from her own bank account.  They bought her the Water Walker and we made plans to all go swimming together and Marissa suprised Emily with it at the pool.  Emily swam and played with her friends, with the biggest smile on her face and lots of squeals and giggles for over an hour.  We think Marissa is an amazing little girl with the biggest heart. Emily is truly blessed to have Marissa in her life.  So often we hear about how kids are bullied and things like that and I wanted to show everyone how caring and thoughtful children can be.

Sincerely,

Tanya and Emily Kenney
