YouTalk--325-3033--The Tebow effect

Posted By: Kristen Stephens · 12/20/2011 8:29:00 AM

Tim Tebow is all over the media these days.  He has a very unconventional way of playing and has brought the topic of religion into sports coverage.

Some NYC kids have been suspended from school for "Tebowing" they knelt down and "prayed" in the hallway of school and because they blocked the hallway were suspended.

The last Denver (Tebows team) vs. New England football game was the biggest ratings draw of a regular season football game in over 4 years.

And yet Tim Tebow is a polarizing figure.  Some don't like how he plays the game and others don't like how he brings religion into every play and press conference.

What are your thoughts on the Tebow effect?

I love the positive vibe he gives out and the fact that people are now bringing God into foodball talk. I think it's about time some of our young people have a truly positive role model in sports instead of hearing about "men" who carry guns and get drunk and arrested. I say lets all get "Tebowed"

OMG!!! Really. So now people are mad about this guy Praying for a win....I do that all the time, "Oh Lord, please let me win the lotto max this week, I swear I will give to the church". Everyone does it, they just don't realize it! For those kids getting suspended, is crazy. If they want to pray, then let them. It is better than them smoking drugs or shooting eachother! People are way too over senseitive these days. I say stop sweating the small stuff and worry about stuff like poverty, de-crimalizing weed, and getting out of dept!

Okay yea a positive roll model, but does he have to always shove religion down our throats as we are watching our Sunday night football. If he was any other religion other than Christian and he was pushing Muslim or Johova beliefs he would be black listed. He would be shunned but the same people who are cheering on his efforts now.

@RT I believe you may have it in reverse RT, if here were any other religion, this wouldn't even be an issue, he would be being praised for bringing diversity and openness to society. But where he is toeing a Christian line that is why he is being slammed.

To quote a WWE Wrestler, The Miz, "Really? Really?? REALLY?"

Are we really being offended by prayer and someone expressing their personal beliefs that they feel passionate about to want to share?

Is that how sensitive we have become that if someone, somehow dares to talk about something that we don't like, don't understand, don't appreciate, we have to shut them up, shut them down and lock them away.

I thought we were in North America where we are supposed to have a freedom of speech and religion, when did we move to behind the red curtain?

I do not watch a lot of football but I have heard of the man. I personally feel that it is great what he is doing. When he wore John 3:16 under his eyes, it was made the most googled bible verse. When God is being pushed out of society of course people are going to make fun and ridicule because it is not what they are use to. Other cultures have come into our country and are allowed to practice their religions freely without any troubles and are actually accommodated. But when it comes to God and Christianity people just snub there noses and say that its not ok and that they are not allowed is that not a double standard??

Tebow is a beast! however the man should be RB not a QB, his legs are his strengh, he was an amazing college QB in Florida but i don't his unconvential style will last long term in the NFL, the NFL is a passer's game now, i think guys like Manning, Breese and Brady have shown what an elite NFL QB is. don't get me wrong i like Tebow and hope he has good luck but just can't see a Superbowl in his future!
