YouTalk--325-3033-- Will plans for 2 new schools be scrapped?

Posted By: Kristen Stephens · 12/16/2011 8:26:00 AM

Two schools in our area; Sounthern Carleton and Centennial are suppose to be replaced. Already 2.5million dollars has been spent on the planning of the 2 new schools.

Now John Slipp (former chairperson for the Woodstock Area Schools Initiative) is starting to believe that the government will not come through and will end up scrapping the plans on building the two new schools, because no announcement has been made by the Alward government regarding moving forward into the building stage.

Do you think we will see the two new schools become a reality or will it be shelved in support of other school projects around the province?

Lets be honest do we really need too new schools...NOOOOOOO..Maybe replace one but not the both of them at the same time.I beleave we should contract out some new up grades to the schools we have now make the old a little more modern and then call in Bob the painter and paint them all with some fresh new paint.Hide everything like the alward goverment. But for the future we only neeed one super school not two school thats dum.One will do the job.

@Muffin Pot I think one school would suffice. We have a huge property where the hospital used to be that's empty. Build ONE K-8 school to house all 3 schools. All three schools get combined at grade 6 anyway. So why not start at the K level. I don't think it's fair for one school to get upgraded and not the other.

Of course these schools will not be built. We live in rural English New Brunswick, and yesterday new schools were announced mostly for Francaphonie students. The province is more concerned with official bilingualism than they are with Anglophone schools or health care, this is proven with the fact that only the English health region had cuts to nursing and front line staff. So while the aged buildings like our middle school crumble around our students, there will be shiny new buildings for French students. Makes one wonder where the government priorities are headed.

@Marie So does that mean French New Brunswickers should be made less of a priority than the English ones? Do they not pay the same provincial taxes as we do? Government priorities... what does that statement even mean???

The Alward Government has failed to follow through on any promises thus far, why would they start now. The senior property tax freeze as well as doing away with ambulance fees are just a few.

I realize that politicians promise the world when they are running for office. Every politician EVER has done this. Lets think for a moment of the HUGE mess that the Alward government inherrited. They can only do so much with so little. I know that I do not envy their job, not one bit! Lets let them do it to the best of their ability. If all we see is benefits for the french, how about we take a look at the conditions of the french schools that are being replaced. Is it at all possible that they are in worse condition then ours? Lets not be so narrowminded people. I take the work of a campaining politician about as far as the quality of a used vehicle from a used car salesman, but they are trying to do their job... lets quit complaining and let them do it... And don't complain when we don't have the money when we are all but banning technologies and industry from our province. IE Hydrofracking and new potash mines...

@Jboy Ya, ya...debt inherited from the Graham gov't, and the Graham gov't complained about the debt they inherited from the Lord gov't. What does The US Obama gov't complain about? That right the debt inherited from the Bush gov't. It's the oldest excuse in the book!
